France
Champion of malt and committed to decarbonisation
20% of the world’s beers are brewed using French brewing barley and malts. Thanks to its terroir and soils, France is the European Union’s leading producer of malting barley. Our 8 malt houses are located in close proximity to malting barley crops, in a strategic position to support local agriculture and help reduce our environmental footprint. We know how to identify the barley varieties that meet brewers’ specifications and the agronomic qualities expected by producers, thanks to a field approach led by our expert agronomists and our mastery of the barley sector: from seed to malt.
Actively committed to the agro-ecological transition, our sites are turning to renewable energy solutions, in particular through the installation of a biomass boiler at our Nogent-sur-Seine site and the use of totally carbon-free waste energy at our Strasbourg malt house.
With a capacity of 813,000 tonnes of malt produced each year, one third of which is produced at the Nogent-sur-Seine site, one of Europe largest malt house, we export our malts to brewers all over the world via multimodal logistics: train, barge, container...
With its roasting unit, our Pithiviers site makes Malteries Soufflet the only French player to offer a complete range of conventional and organic kilned and roasted malts produced exclusively in France.
